Gold is solid, shiny, soft and supple pure metal. It is a chemical component with symbol Au and atomic number 79. It has be preferred as a precious metal for jewellery, currency etc. Gold is a metal that occurs as granules in rocks, alluvial deposits and also as a piece. Gold is bright yellow in color. Gold is considered as an attractive metal. Pure gold is more chemical and not reactive in nature, but bothered by aqua regia, it is a mixture of acids. At the end of 2006, the amount of gold mined was 158,000 tones. Gold liquefy in mercury and form amalgam alloy, but it does not react with gold. Nitric acid will dissolve in silver and also base metals, but gold is insoluble in it. Nitric acid is used to verify the presence of gold in particular items.
